d’Arenberg, The Coppermine Road, Cabernet Sauvignon, McLaren Vale 2013

This sits in the more savoury and herbaceous (not green) spectrum with pencils, cigar box, blackberry/cassis, oregano, leather, fresh earth and beetroot skin. The palate brings heavy tannins that sit and brood once the tight black fruit has withdrawn. There’s black olive, more of that fresh earth and just enough mint to help you remember it’s cabernet. 20+ years life ahead of it. Very good and my fave of the 3 icons.
