From the heart of Coldstream in the Yarra Valley comes a relatively new label: first vintage being produced in 2013, though fruit had often gone to other wineries. Ben Haines is the winemaker.
Warramunda Estate, Viognier, Yarra Valley 2016
Opens with Jersey caramel, apricot pie/crumble, apricot kernel, waxy candlestick, orange zest and flint. This plays lighter than most with a bittersweet citrus definition rather than rich apricot stonefruit, yet still finishes with some varietal weight on the palate. Quite refreshing with a soft saline angle and that tart orange citrus acidity to finish. A well constructed mid weight example.
RRP: $35
Alc: 11.8%
