Roussanne is one of the white “Rhone” varietals that is usually blended with Viognier and/or Marsanne. Made from “organically” and biodynamically grown grapes.
d’Arenberg, The Money Spider, Roussanne, McLaren Vale, 2017
I do like the label…it takes a little bit to see the arachnid, but he’s there (and most likely has just spun a web between the rows so you end up doing the spider dance when you get caught in it unawares. But the Money Spiders referenced here are smaller beasts.) Gunsmoke and preserved citrus, greengage, green tomato, light honey and wax. Varietally full but not oily: roast macadamia, light stonefruit and citrus rind. A delicious briny textural mouthfeel rounds it all out. Is different. Is good. Is value.
