Label translates as “Red Stone” due to the iron oxide rich and rocky soils where this fruit is grown, and from “an absolutely cracking vintage” according to the Pizzinis. 20% new oak maturation.
Pizzini, Pietra Rossa, Sangiovese, King Valley, 2015
Deep ruby coloured in the glass. A veritable shop front of spices: with cloves, nutmeg and dried mixed herbs before ripe plums and meatier, savoury leather notes. Fresh and fruity: Plums, brambly blackberry, cherry cola hints, choc/oak influence and lingering spices. Crowd pleasing micro-tannins that run right up the middle of the tongue before refreshing acidity cleans it all up and leaves you wanting more.
