2013 was a welcome return to more normal conditions after the cold wet years of 2011 and 2012. Huntington Estate are just about to roll over to the 2014.
Huntington Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mudgee, 2013
The nose immediately evokes the gutsy reputation for Mudgee: black fruit and tar with meaty/yeasty mature elements, shadows of pencil and a touch of dried clove studs. A little cleaner and fruitier on the palate with lots of juicy blackcurrant before clinging/jarring tannins and a little hiccup of unexpected heat. Loves to cut through protein and fat, so give it something thick and on the bone.
