While Claymore Wines labeling convention usually runs through the annals of music, there’s a deep love for the Liverpool Football Club also.
Anura Nitchingham, the founder of Claymore Wines, having spent many years in Liverpool is proud to say “I’m a massive Liverpool Football Club fan. But whether it’s football or wine, passion is the key.” More than a passing obsession, Claymore Wines were appointed the Official LFC Tour 2015 Match Sponsor for Adelaide.
The wine matured in 35% new French oak and 65% 2 year old French and American oak. Marnie Roberts is the winemaker.
Claymore Wines, Robbie Fowler Signature, Shiraz, Clare Valley, 2014
Near impenetrable hue, with only the slightest light dawning through the rim. Overt and hedonistic, this bangs into the back of the net (sorry for the footballing pun) with lashings of blueberry, blackberry, blood plums and on the earthier side: bramble, sharp fresh leather and minerally graphite. The oak gives cedar notes and a hint of mocha. On the palate, coconutty oak with warm cedar spices decry it to be still so young, but it follows quickly with an amalgam of earthy mushroom to match rich blood plum and black fruits. The tannin structure is elegant, pervasive. A powerful, intense wine with many years ahead.
