Bernard Schurr, Les Courtilles, Côtes du Rhône, 2016
Raspberry dominant nose with a rustic, herbal edge. There’s a gamey, meaty element that gives it an “old world” nod. Minimal oak used in the winemaking and is also elusive on the palate, simply dark jubey fruit, which finishes a little short. Some herbal bitterness and a creamy, buttery exit make this an accessible, regional expression of a CdR blend.
