Aranel is a very rare variety. It is a relatively recent hybrid derived in 1961 by grape breeder Paul Truel. Its parents are Grenache Gris and Saint-Pierre Doré (an almost-extinct white grape from the Auvergne region of France). Berton get their fruit from a family in the Riverina who have one of the only vineyards in the world.
Berton Vineyards, Winemakers Reserve, Aranel, Riverina 2018
Musky white rose aromas, citrus blossom and light melon. A pleasant texture, carries some grip and weight with an almost red skin lolly character to match orange citrus. Just medium bodied, just medium length of flavor. Medium plus acidity. Interesting wine as an alternative to other aromatic whites.
