Sandalford, Estate Reserve, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Margaret River, 2018
Pale colour in the glass with green hue. Fragrant tropical fruit skin wrapped in citrus zest: limes and lemons. Varietal gooseberry and passionfruit with smoky nuances and blackcurrant leaf earthiness. A cut above the usual blend. Crisp and refreshing (of course it is) but the point of difference is balance between the two varietals: Taking the good aspects of the sauvignon blanc (earthy and savoury) and striking the right balance to the semillon’s acidity. There’s a lingering vanilla creaminess that plays nicely with the zip to a tight, dry finish.
