JC reach to the spiritual home of Cabernet for this construct, namely Coonawarra. ‘Finished’ in Irish Whiskey barrels. I like Irish Whiskey. I like Cabernet.
Jacob’s Creek, Double Barrel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, 2016
The interplay of aromas is almost perplexing: Varietal, regional eucalypt and mint coat savoury caramel before the return of fruit driven cassis and olive. The palate is dry, almost austere with the fruit being firmly in the black spectrum of both savoury and sweet; olive and blackcurrant. Tannins are a well woven carpet the the focused fruit gildes upon. This is a fine Coonawarra cabernet, tweaked with interest by the definite fingerprints of the whiskey barrels.
