Hamish Maguire’s latest show pony: Gold at Royal Melbourne Wine Awards last year and this taking out the Albert Chan Memorial Prize for Best White Wine at the 2019 Sydney Royal Wine Show. Sourced from a single vineyard outside the town of Meadows in the southern parts of the Adelaide Hills. A worthy winner.
Shottesbrooke, Single Vineyard Series, Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, 2017
Intense, complex and powerful aromas: Stonefruit (nectarine rather than peach), pristine grapefruit and lemon zest biscuit. Hints of green apple and straw bale with precisely judged oak. The preciseness carries to the palate with each component in beautiful harmony. Bright and clear, unencumbered by heavy oak or searing acidity, the flavour carries long through a persistent finish. An exemplar chardonnay of balance.
