Another slight rebranding of Gartelmann’s Petit Verdot release. Sourced from the higher, cooler climes of Rylstone, in the Mudgee Region. 17 months maturation in new and older French and American oak.
Gartelmann, Georg, Petit Verdot, Mudgee, 2016
Herbal tobacco prickles before intense black and blue fruits, dusty violets, baked muffin sweetness/spice, tarry polish and melted chocolate. Full bodied and concentrated, but not without charm elevated with a sharp spine of linear intensity. Slick dark fruits interplay creamily with the soft, downy tannins, leaving a smoky, anise echo. It feels like an indulgent, simple wine but that’s indeed the trick to get right.
