Hard to nail Pinot at $20, but here we go, the team at Fourth Wave Wine are having a crack with this label. Minimal preservatives and slowly fermented. Put together by FWW honcho Nicholas Crampton and the talented Tim Shand from Punt Rd wines.
The Hare & The Tortoise, Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, 2020
Smells flinty primary and herby upon first whiff. There’s some tomato sugo richness, soft charcuterie meats, cherry red fruit with light kiss of orange bitters and choc bullet oak and a turn of fresh earth. Running warm and a little high spirited, medium-full experience in a medium body, like wearing an oversized shirt. The grip of fine tannin is pleasant and ultimately you would still pick it blind as being a Pinot Noir, if lacking a little refinement. Bravo for the effort at the price.
