A true red blend of the wonderful fruits that Cape Mentelle have access to: Shiraz, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, Nebbiolo and maybe even a smidge of Graciano. Note, Cape Mentelle have just flicked over on their website to the 2019, but the 2018 should still be widely available.
Cape Mentelle, Rosé, Margaret River, 2018
Light cerise in colour. Fragrant: bath soaps, raspberry floral, strawberry, light watermelon, white chery, white chocolate (with that cocoa butter richness), whipped cream, hints of riper fruit salad and effervescent life. Depth, power, intention. This is serious. Dialed up without being tricked up. Nothing subtle but this is not an afterthought of a red winemaking process. Dry, persistent, and thoughtful with the right amount of saliva inducing juiciness through a long, long finish.
