John Wallace Wines is Richard Done’s brand new solo project. Richard has a fine CV of Hunter Valley legends: Scarborough, Thomas Wines and most recently with the reins at Bimbadgen. Rare to see a “table” red released in the same vintage year, so good to see Richard with a fresh take for the region.
John Wallace Wines, juju Red, Hunter Valley, 2021
No advice of the grapes that make the blend, but there’s bound to be a bit of Shiraz. Medium garnet with a bright purple hue at the rim. Perfumed and chalky nose, with plenty of plump fresh summer berries, rose petals and blood orange. Medium bodied and sleek bodied. Bright and youthful, with a innate easiness and fresh attitude. Unencumbered by too much oak, the tannins are firm and toothsome. Uncomplicated, but well made and thoroughly enjoyable.
