Sibling to the Yarra Valley Wickhams Road…..
Wickhams Road, Gippsland Chardonnay, 2015
Light waxy cheese, meaty sulfides, deep hay, stale white bread crust with a tiny hint of vanilla. Packs a good punch with some weight on the palate: (probably a good middleweight) light grapefruit citrus, vanilla cream sweetness juxtaposed savoury, textural stony angles. Juicy acidity: surprisingly mouth puckering and teeth cutting. Ghosts of lime and fig flavours haunt after the texture shuffles off the mortal coil. Most chardonnay at this price point show overt tropicals and sometimes dumb fruit, this one knowing exactly what it wants to be when it grows up. Top value.
