Bit of a left field item here. This bottle came from a mystery dozen purchased from the remnants of the Sydney Royal Wine Show (sold to raise funds for dedicated purposes, not for profit) and seemed to be the runt of the litter, hence the immediate consumption. Mount Cathedral Vineyards, Cabernet Merlot, 2013
Wet stalks, mulch, blackberry bramble, meaty plum, chalk. Merlot to the fore with bright blood plum before wet and green/lean cabernet takes over and stalky tannins dry it out. A star anise spice like finish, but not the most convincing experience.
RRP: $26 (for the 2012 according to the website)
Alc: 13%
