The brother to the Wickhams Road Yarra Valley Pinot and sourced from Hoddles Creek own vineyard in Gippsland, about 3 hours east of Melbourne.
Hoddles Creek Estate, Wickhams Road, Pinot Noir, Gippsland, 2016
The grapes are destemmed without crushing and then left on skins for 25 days. No filtration or fining. Slightly sweeter, yet darker nose than the Yarra Valley wine with baked brown spice, biscuity cherry tart and some smoky brambles. Richly fruited palate the provides joy with dark plums and echoes of forest floor. Lip smacking tannins that grip, flex and then release. Lingering thyme herbaceous finish. Yet again, the Hoddles Creek put up a wine that defies the price. Back the truck up.
