Berton Vineyards, Metal Range Classic, Chardonnay, Limestone Coast, 2016
Limestone Coast chardy for $12? Hmm. Okay, there’s oak but it’s subtle. Requisite white stonefruit and melon without being jammy or cooked with distinct lime citrus. There’s mealy, yeasty notes too. All smelling like decent chardonnay so far. A surprise packet on the palate: cool line acidity runs a spine along the limey citrus with the right amount of oak for richness. Light tropical fruits hangs out the back without being offensive or taking over. Good value.
