This champagne is from the house of G.H. Martel. The image below makes the bottle look sort of peachy, but it is indeed bright gold. Exclusive to Woolworth’s liquor stores: Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
G.H. Martel, Victoire Gold Champagne, 2008
DIAM cork. Pretty sure 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. Plenty of excited bubbles in the glass when poured out. Very soft aromas of peach stone fruit, honey, sour apple, flaky pastry, mandarin citrus rind and cherry skin but ends with a distracting sweaty vinegar note. Medium bodied palate with a waxy feel to the mousse. Brightly fruited with sweet lemonade citrus characters, juicy acidity before finishing with honey and drying salinity. Just starting to show elements of maturity. A good, but not great, vintage champagne.
