2014 was a stellar vintage for the Hunter Valley and Gundog Estate’s winemaker Matt Burton knew he was on to something special with some amazing parcels from around the valley. fruit. Owned by the Tinkler family, the “48 Block” was part of the well-known Lindemans Ben Ean plantings.
Gundog Estate, The 48 Block, Single Vineyard, Shiraz, Hunter Valley, 2014
This seems a little less fuller bodied than its siblings, but no less impressive. Oak and char, smooth plum skin, some sweet slaw cabbage/mexican taco herby spiced complexity, fresh toast edges and a cooling sweet menthol note underscored with white pepper. Sandier, more expansive tannin structure that blooms into each corner of the mouth with a restrained plum and black fruit profile. Elegance and length are the twin pillars of this wine.
