Berton Vineyards Reserve Botrytis Semillon 2016

The Riverina and Berton usually provide exceptional value for money, and this wine is no exception. Took the Myra Lehmann Perpetual Trophy for Best Dessert Wine (Unfortified) at the Sydney International Wine Competition against far more fancied labels.

Berton Vineyards, Reserve, Botrytis, Semillon, Riverina 2016

A bright, light honey gold colour in the glass. Highly lifted perfume: Apricot jam and fleshy cheeks, alongside presrved citrus rind and a sweetness that straddles between honey and butterscotch. The sweetness on the palate runs to cloying but balanced with a vibrancy and zing from Semillon’s inherent acidity. Incredible length of flavour where the spectrum winds through butterscotch, preserved lemon, lemon drops and an earthy warmth. An absolute bargain.
