Gartelmann, Benjamin, Semillon, Hunter Valley, 2018
A far more giving nose for a young sem, but the northern fruit helps this along with plenty of white citrus blossom, weak lime squeeze, clean lemon juice. A little time in bottle has helped flesh out the bones: elements of richer lemon sorbet and portents to honey while Hunter acidity still clips through at a rate of many knots. Even though there’s plenty of citrus depth maybe even a touch of young green pear, the finish is taut. Medium term in the cellar or now with bbq white fish fillets.
