Fruit sourced from the Hilltops area of New South Wales with an average vineyard height of 660m above sea level. The wine saw success at the 2019 Hilltops Wine Show, taking out the Cabernet Trophy and the Best Wine In Show. Note: bottle image is of the 2016, but no other change except for the vintage year.
McWilliam’s, McW 660, Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, Hilltops, 2018
Jubey blackberry, cassis, tar, licorice, roast beef jus, blue plum, bay and fresh earth. Concentrated, just full bodied palate with a slightly odd acid structure at the finish. Nevertheless, svelte tannins are mouth coating and show regional earthy elements. I’m not sure how much competition it had at the Hilltops Wine Show, but it certainly is a good wine.
