Hill-Smith Estate, Sauvignon Blanc, Eden Valley, 2019
Pale gold. Interesting interplay between fresh elements and the winemaking artifice: Preserved citrus rind weaves in and out of creamed asparagus with smoked ham notes, passion fruit seed and perfumed blossom. Highly textured yet reined in: the fruit maintains purity and ably supported with the oak. Sneaky elements of vanilla and black currant alongside fresh and spiced lemongrass give a unique take on an oft derided variety.
