Château Paul Mas, Languedoc. 2018

Heady with licorice, black cherry, plum sauce, “Chambord-esque” liquer notes, camphor, clove, some tarry earthy notes and an ashen, yet sweet rustic oak lilt. Medium-full and with a syrupy, satiny palate full of darkly herbal cherry fruit. There a surprsing amount of shrill acidity piercing the tail of flatish, webbed tannin. Not without charm, it’s suave with a veneer of slick polish.
