Mike Aylward is the driving force behind Ocean Eight wines, with all grapes for their range sourced from the estate’s 17 hectares of vineyards. Pinot Gris was the first release back in 2004. With a steady rise, Mike won the Young Gun Of Wine award back in 2011 and now sponsors the awards which celebrate the up and coming, next batch of winemakers in Australia.
Ocean Eight, Pinot Gris, Mornington Peninsula, 2019
Carrying an easy golden hue to the colour. Fresh and vibrant, yet carrying an air of seriousness: aromas of perfectly ripe pear flesh, citrus leaf and skin, white florals, tobacco and crushed flat leaf herbal elements with struck match and a richer creamier ghee note. No shrinking violet on the palate. A heft of fleshy pear spiked with piquant spice, bright acidity and a long dry finish punctuated by chamomile notes. Serious Gris and not be dismissed.
