*Counterpoint as the translation. There’s several definitions for counterpoint:
– a complementing or contrasting item
– use of contrast or interplay of elements in a work of art
– the technique involving the simultaneous sounding of two or more parts or melodies
Here we have Kerner (a.k.a Weisser Herold) from the Fechner vineyard in the Eden Valley and it offers a counterpoint to the usual aromatic Rieslings that come from the region, rather than being used as a blending component, where its profile would move in counterpoint to its partner. This is the only straight bottling of Kerner in the southern hemisphere.
Winemakers are Daniel Chaffey Hartwig and Theo Engela.
Chaffey Bros. Wine Co., KONTRAPUNKT, Eden Valley, 2019
Fresh and lively: initial pear split by spice, lychee, creamed honey, grilled kaffir lime skin, stony quartz with a touch rosewater on the pull-away. Offering some flesh to the front palate with richer than expected elements before the acidity refreshes with a lime granita like finish and a slightly tacky, drying phenolic grip. A moreish wine of difference.
RRP: $28.99
