Dalrymple, Cave Block, Chardonnay, Pipers River, 2017
Incredibly layered and complex aromas: Lemon butter, peach slice, white quartz rocks, hints of oyster shell, unwrapped nougat, just rained on lemon myrtle, flinty sulphides for the right amount of funk, vanilla orchid with flecks of savoury wheat germ and cashew. Focused power and intensity with sublime freshness and balance. After the perfectly weighted kiss of fruit to start, the length of the palate is exceptional, with green apple acidity pulsating through the briny dryness and precise phenolics. An exceptional wine. Still very primary and begging to be left alone for a few more years.
