From the Hughes brothers at the Mewstone Vineyard comes the 2nd of their “living wine” sparklings. With fruit mix of Riesling (75%), Chardonnay (20%) and Dornfelder (5%) coming from the White Rock vineyard in the north of Tasmania. The blend is put into bottle before the primary ferment had finished to capture the bubbles. Unfined and unfiltered with no added sulphur. Under crown seal. Label print by @michael_schlitz_art
Hughes & Hughes,Soirée, Pétillant Naturel, Tasmania, 2020
A fleshy salmon pink/dull rose gold hue. Pretty and floral aromas with stonefruit slices, mandarin, pink musk tinge and chalkiness. The palate and mousse broad and raw, but handsome. Flavours wend their way through yellow stonefruit, white chocolate, green plum, smoke and lime. The acidity is bracing and cutting before a chalky, drying finish. Unique and interesting.
