While Viognier is more at home in the Rhone region of France, this tidy little number from the expansive Domaines Paul Mas (made by Jean-Claude Mas) comes from the Languedoc region in southwest France. Available Australia wide at Dan Murphy’s and BWS. Bottled under screwcap.
Domaines Paul Mas, Vignes de Nicole, Viognier, Pays d’Oc IGP, Languedoc, 2019
Medium lemon gold hue. Lifted stone fruit and mealy bran alongside a riper watermelon rind and barley sugar hint and pleasing light ginger spice. Carrying a little breadth through the palate, there’s good structure supporting varietal flavours and spice. The finish is clean and balanced. Certainly good value for the price point
