Not quite Tuscany, but rather Sangiovese from the cool climate Orange region of New South Wales.
Angullong, Fossil Hill, Sangiovese, Orange, 2019
Medium ruby-garnet colour. Macerated cherry, pencil lacquer, ripe blueberries in the punnet, garden herbs and cooling pine needle. Ripe and slick dark cherry fruit that’s a little obtuse through the mid palate, before a firm hand of drying tannin flattens things out (and a little stab of regional acidity). It seems abrupt and uptight now, but a little time won’t hurt or a sympathetic tomato/meaty dish.
