Pikes = Riesling. No arguments. But when they turn their hand to juicy reds, its easy to see they’re adept at the dark arts as well. Note the winery has just rolled to the 2019, but there will still be plenty of this out there.
Pikes, Los Compañeros Shiraz Tempranillo, Clare Valley, 2018
Plump blue plum, rose hearts and blueberry fruit. Darker edged with chocolate, black olives, tobacco, licorice, animalistic lanolin and white pepper spice. Medium bodied and just fun. Bright acidity and up front fruit, unencumbered by any heavy oak cloaking. Slurp it down with friends and many plates of tapas to bring a smile.
