Bishop by Ben Glaetzer Shiraz 2019

Bishop is the family name of Ben’s mother Judith (who, just may have the most wines named after her considering Nick, Ben’s brother also has wines named after their mum. Maynard James Keenan, front man of Tool and A Perfect Circle, winemaker at Cadeceus in Arizona, has named plenty of songs after his mum, also called Judith. It simply must be an inspirational name for inspirational people!).

Bishop, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2019

All the black things the Barossa can throw at it: Blackberry and cassis, black olive with sweet clove and steeping plums. Cedary lightly chary oak and the whole block of dark cooking chocolate. Generous, ripe and yet still focused. It carries its hulking body with apparent ease and framed well by tight, grainy tannins. A harmonious finish of earthy coffee, plum and spice while a little spike of acidity is welcomed.
