Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Shiraz 2018

The 48th vintage of this label. Arguably one of the most underpriced wines in the country. This release celebrates long time employee, Nick Waterman who has held the role of GM since 2015 (and prior to that GM of the Negociants arm since 2003). 54% Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Barossa Shiraz, the Yalumba oak regime is considered and complex. The wine matured for 21 months in
French oak barriques, American and Hungarian hogsheads (33% new) and the rest in older French, Hungarian and American barriques and hogsheads. Bottled under cork.

Yalumba, The Signature, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Barossa, 2018

Yalumba-TheSignature-CabernetSauvignonShiraz-2018

Barossa shows its hand with formic acid (crushed ants), red and blue fruits, crushed cigar. Oak influences of fresh coconut slices but tempered with bay leaf and blue stone. Medium bodied, flowing and considered. Punchy bright fruit fortified by exquisite structure and refined tannins. Long, focused and elegant. Another statement of excellence.
