September 16th is #InternationalGrenacheDay. Yalumba have done much work to promote this resurgent variety that has been planted in Australia for many years. The fruit for this is sourced from the Ancestor vines (planted 1889, hence seeing their third century) in the Yalumba Tri-Centenary block. Winemaker is Kevin Glastonbury.
Yalumba, The Tri-Centenary, Grenache, Barossa Valley, 2019
Wow factor is high. Intense and complex with layers of red raspberry (both freeze dried and fresh) and cherry fruit, earthy leather, tiered rhubarb crumble and tight vanilla oak touches. Tight, classy and elegant. Depth of fruit without anything spilling out. Exquisite lines with pure direction with lightness and a delicious nature.
