Fox Creek may be in the ancient soils of McLaren Vale, but that maritime climate doesn’t quite suit growing Chardonnay: the nearby cool of the Adelaide Hills does that. 24% new French oak maturation, some older oak (6 months) and some tank work. Winemakers are Ben Tanzer and Steven Soper.
Fox Creek, Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, 2022
Pale lemon/straw colour. Nougat and grapefruit nose with plenty of white stone fruit, blossom, some toasty bread-crust oak and a click of flintiness. Mid weight and carrying good width with structural build from the oak work. Flavours of bittersweet grapefruit and oak spice echo neatly through the pointy finish. Certainly tucking neatly into Mod Oz mode and well made.
