Limited release of this Italian variety from Fox Creek. McLaren Vale is somewhat of a crucible for South Australia with regards to these “alternative” grapes. The ancient soils and maritime temperatures provide wonderful growing conditions. Maturation in older French oak.
Fox Creek, Nero D’Avola, McLaren Vale, 2022
Medium garnet to ruby with a clearish edge. Baked blueberry muffins and dried herbs with raspberry, iodine, old black tea leaves and a umami strawberry/balsamic tone. Dry and driving. Super fine tannin with a long concentration of acidity. Red fruit presence but the palate dominated by structure. Quite an intense experience as a standalone but perfect foil for lamb chops or BBQ Pork.
