Not their most expensvie, but arguably their best. Flagship Nebbiolo here from the Saturno family, the custodians of Longview. Featuring Saturn (Saturnus) etched onto the bottle, the move to screwcap is welcomed and will serve the ageing potential of this wine well.
Longview, Saturnus, Riserva, Nebbiolo, Adelaide Hills, 2023
Pale garnet with near clear rim belying the depth and power. Crushed bluestone, rose petals, amaro and anise herbs, maraschino cherries and cherry pips, fine sand, negroni bitter orange and touch of piquant white pepper. Showing that medium bodied wines can offer power and complexity, even if slightly vintage affected with a little less flesh on the bones. Acid vibrancy and impetus, a veritable carpet of fine tannin providing base and frame. Long length and good development ahead under the screwcap.
