Wine By Sam The Butterfly Effect Cabernet Merlot 2015

Mrs Drew scored an intro to Naked Wines with an offer for a mixed case. It’s an interesting purchase model: customers sponsoring winemakers. Wines being made/priced exclusively for the sponsors. The website offers social and community aspects (including ratings) so it’s rolling in plenty of digital zeitgeist. Sam Plunkett is a bloody good winemaker. (Originally at Plunkett Wines in North Eastern Victoria near Euroa and the Strathbogie Range, it became Plunkett-Fowles and then the Plunkett connection finished up after the Fowles family bought them out). Wine By Sam is now his baby.

Wine By Sam, The Butterfly Effect, Cabernet, Merlot, Victoria, 2015

Rich black fruits, leather, cinnamon quills, spiced plums. Giving, purple and black fruits, offset with chalky but fine tannins. Cheeky warmth without being hot. A soft olive note giving the savoury almost soy/yeatsy note finish. I had no idea on the actual price when I tried this and whilst I knew it wasn’t the most expensive wine, it’s turned out to be good value.

RRP: $13.99 (Angel Price $8.99)
Alc: 14.4%
Rating: 16.25/20
