Ricky Evans by day is the mild mannered assistant wine maker at Bay Of Fires. By night, he is Two Tonne Tasmania. Well, not really by night….just his own personal label. Doing exciting things for the Tassie wine horizon such as a range of pinot noirs and the Ziggurat white: a blend of Riesling and skin contact Gewurztraminer. Current vintages are pretty much sold out, but he’s taking pre-release orders via the website. Here’s a sneak peak of the 2017 Riesling, available around Christmas this year.
Two Tonne Tasmania, TMV, Riesling, Tamar Valley, 2017
Fragrant with rich lime, custard apple, lemon rind, salty nuance, soft talc and a baked blueberry sweetness. Sour-grass/Woodsorrel flavour reminiscent of my child hood along with green apple, spiced lime juice and just-talc driven texture. Beautifully judged acidity the enlivens the entire palate. Exciting future ahead for Ricky, the label and this wine.
