While most of the Claymore wines are based on musical themes, YNWA is the acronym for “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” the slogan for Liverpool FC. Claymore Wines founder, Anura Nitchingham is a proud Liverpool fan: “Claymore’s relationship with Liverpool FC runs deep – having spent many years in Liverpool I’m proud to say I’m a fan. Whether it’s football or wine, passion is the key.” The company are the official wine partner of LFC in Australia and run “experience” competitons to send winners to the UK.
Claymore Wines, YNWA, Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, 2016
65% Grenache, 25% Shiraz, 10% Mataro. Unfiltered and matured in 100% old oak for 10 months. It’s all about the instant appeal: fruit forward with plenty of red berries and fruits. Soft earthy undergrowth sponges the coconutty oak and choc peanut bar. Plump, ripe black and red fruit with a hint of crushed ant and choc/mocha silkiness. Tannins are firm and plentiful, providing plenty of support. A slightly indulgent, but well put together plush ride.
