Shingleback in McLaren Vale have a deep museum stock, which is sent out to their club members during the year. This wine arrived as part of a sample of back vintages. I don’t think they’ve made any since this vintage.
Shingleback, John Foolery, Viognier, McLaren Vale, 2013
Still a youthful, pale yellow in the glass with lifted aromas of honeysuckle, peach, orange, beeswax and chalk. Full palate, being a little waxy with flavours of lychee, dried apricot, melon, grapefruit and brown spice over burnt butter fattiness. Sour acidity still manages to cut through. Developing maturity and will continue for several more years but for now serve with richer white meat dishes such as pan fried veal.
