Glenpara was the name given to the released table wines from Seppeltsfield before Warren Randall and the team were allowed to legally use the Seppeltsfield brand name after purchasing the iconic, historic jewel from corporate hands. In the early days, Nathan Waks, then of Kilikanoon, was also part of the ownership structure and the wine bears “Produced by Kilikanoon Wines.” Bottled under Screwcap
Glenpara, Head Office, Shiraz, Barossa Valley, 2006
Deep garnet with brick red rim. Overt Barossa nose: Sappy, pencilly oak over big chunks of blackberry and plum. Christmas cake spice and richness. Full bodied. Still plenty of primary fruit: blackberry and boysenberry through a slippery mouthfeel with sweet vanilla oak wrapping before secondary elements of meaty char brisket ends, even a hint of rancio. There’s a sheet of tannin which still makes the tongue poke and prod at the gums. Maybe a few years left to see where this will end up, lucky I’ve still got 10 left in the cellar!
