This red blend comprises Merlot (75%), Cabernet Franc (17%), Cabernet Sauvignon (7%) and Pete Verdot (1%). A nickname bestowed upon winemaker Gerald Naef, while I know plenty of Jezzas, so I dedicate this note to them.
Patina, Jezza, Orange, 2016
A nose dominated by savoury pencilly tones with floral, dusty violet, rich blackcurrant and plum jam. Cedary oak like a blanket. Intense and powerful palate. Full bodied with that dark berry melange fruit profile, chary oak and a dark chocolate smear. The tannins are broad, expansive and get into each corner of the mouth. There’s still a regional lift to the finish showing a bright pulse and balance. I suggest decanting for 2 hours at least or keep it for a few years stashed away.
