I must admit to never having heard of Guneemooroo Estate in Mudgee. However, the wine is made by the ridiculously talented Jacob Stein. The wine has been awarded Top Gold Medal at the 2017 Mudgee Wine Show and silver medals at the same show in 2018 and at the NSW Wine Award 2017.
Guneemooroo Estate, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mudgee, 2016
Deep garnet colour, almost opaque at the core. Fragrant and expressive nose. Blackberry conserve smears intermixing with earthy bluestone, cedar spice, light pencil shavings and a touch of Christmas pine. Medium-full bodied with the extra time in bottle smoothing out (but not taming) the renowned earthy, powerful Mudgee tannin that spreads and sets firm. The palate still presents as a tight package, chock full of black fruits with an earthy savoury support. Offers a few years yet to enjoy the primary version.
