From the Hastwell and Lightfoot ‘Mediterranean’ range. Fiano hails from southern Italy and is also planted on the island of Sicily. McLaren Vale offers some of Australia’s best plantings.
Hastwell & Lightfoot, Fiano, McLaren Vale, 2019
Light, bright straw gold in the glass. Hints of sweet nectarine stonefruit and hazlenut with an almond croissant richer doughy nutty character, counterpointed by grapefruit skin. The palate belies the nose: textural and puckering, offering austerity of grapefruit citrus with an intense tight, drawn conclusion. Crying out for food pairing: fleshy white fish is a no-brainer.
