Heartland was founded in the late 1990’s by celebrated winemaker Ben Glaetzer along with industry “veterabs” Scott Collett, Grant Tilbrook and Nick Keukenmeester, producing their first wine in 2001. Nearly 20 years later, the wines continue to punch well above their weight in terms of quality and price (even better if you’re a club member).
Heartland Wines, Shiraz, Langhorne Creek, 2018
Dark and cool: peppercorns, malt, warm toast, ginger root, char, blood plum and chocolate buttons. Medium-full bodied palate with plenty of peppery spice and chewy, stalky tannins. Good amount of gutsy dark fruit with meaty edge through the finish. Offers enough for those who like it a little rough around the edges.
RRP: $19
Alc: 14.5%
Rating: 16.75/20 (88/100)
