Gundog Estate are based in the Hunter and Canberra (Australian Capital Territory), however the devastating 2020 season prohibted winemaker Matt Burton from using his usual quality Canberra grapes, so he’s headed south to the Yarra Valley to obtain fruit from De Bortoli‘s Dixons Creek plantings.
Gundog Estate, Riesling, Yarra Valley, 2020
Highly fragrant with blossom, pear, rosewater, rich lime citrus, hints of stonefruit, cool steel and honeysuckle. Initial fruit richness makes way for taut, steely lines. Delicacy and structure, depth and lightness with a long chalky finish. While points may be irrelevant, time may see my judgement as miserly.
