Technically this is the “Reserve” Shiraz Pinot Noir blend from talented and handsome Scott Comyns (who is now out on his own after working at renowned Pepper Tree and with Andrew Thomas). Made up of 70% Pokolbin Estate Shiraz (where Andrew Thomas sources for some of his top tier Shiraz) and 30% Beyond Broke Vineyard Pinot Noir, this is one of the new wave of Shiraz/Pinot blends in the Hunter.
Comyns & Co, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Hunter Valley, 2018
Dark macerated cherry aromas with lacquer, good strawberry jam, loganberry, vanilla essence, hibiscus flower, brown spice and fresh leather. Silky smooth and utterly charming. A focused wine with palate intensity and precision with the right amount of savoury, elegant PN aspects to give a fine grounding to the more voluptuous Shiraz fruit. A fine sheet of tannin and a upward tick of clean acidity at the finish to keep things bright. Dangerously drinkable.
